Lochs of Scotland

Isle of Skye
After exploring the magnificent
highlands, it’s time to travel towards the
heart of Scotland. It’s one of the largest
islands in the inner Hebrides named
as the Isle of Skye. The combination of
heroic mountain ranges and miles of
dramatic cliffs at the coastline makes the
place way more exceptional. Though the
island is spread over 50 miles, one can
easily stay here for a week just for the
exploration.

Isle of Skye has some beautiful villages
under its shadow. Portree — the capital
of Skye, Dunvegan, Edinbane, Uig, Staffin,
Broadford, Armadale, Carbost, Elgol and
Kyleakin are just few of them. All of these
hold a unique existence and cultural
variance. I would definitely recommend
a stay at one of these villages.
Skye is beautiful in any weather
condition and offers some unseen
photographic opportunities. They say
that Skye is for everyone and nobody

returns empty handed from here. Major
attractions in Isle of Skye are The Old
Man of Storr, Mealt Waterfall and Kilt
Rock, Elgol Beach, Quiraing and Neist
Point Lighthouse.

The Old Man of Storr is a large pinnacle
of rocks that stands high and can be
seen from miles around Skye. The hill is
famous for hiking and has been featured
in many popular movies.

There are almost 31,460 freshwater
lakes (famously called as loch) in
Scotland. By this time, you would have
realised that just few days of visit to
this magic land is not enough for the
exploration. It’s impossible to visit
all these lochs. However, Loch Ness,
Loch Lomond, Loch Morar are some

interesting ones due to their scales.
Loch Lomond is the largest freshwater
lake; however, Loch Morar is the
deepest in Scotland. Loch Ness just
follows these two but attracts more
travellers in search of the famous water
monster named Nessie. Nessie is just
more than a story and many people

claim seeing it in this 37-km-long
muddy lake. Even though there were no
clear evidences of proving it, Nessie has
become a part of family for highlanders
and a must visit friend for kids. This
image was shot from the Loch Ness
ferry ride. See if you can spot Nessie in
this picture!
