WHAT MAKES MANUKA HONEY SPECIAL?
Manuka honey is made by bees that feed on the
nectar of the native leptospermum tree family known
as Manuka or Tea Tree in New Zealand, and Jellybush
in Australia. Like raw organic honey, Manuka honey
is a rich source of amino acids and essential nutrients
including calcium, copper, iron, potassium, zinc,
magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium,
sodium and vitamins B1, B2, B6 and C Manuka Honey
come from the nectar of the leptospermum tree
family native to New Zealand and Australia.
HEALTH BENEFITS
Manuka honey has been attributed with helping to
treat everything from allergies, common coughs
and colds to the flu, sore throats, gingivitis, digestive
ailments, wounds and infections. It is also known
to help boost immunity, benefit sleep, balance
blood sugar levels, manage weight, assist sport
performance and recovery, promote oral health
and healthy skin.
HOW TO USE IT
For general health and wellbeing, take 1-2 teaspoons
daily*, at room temperature – either straight off the
spoon or added to your favourite smoothie or healthy
recipes. Avoid using in boiling water and hot drinks
as heat destroys Manuka’s antibacterial properties.
It can be applied directly to the skin to treat wounds
and help fight infection, or as a natural face mask
(see over page for recipe). For optimum health
benefits choose a Manuka honey with an MGO
rating of at least MGO 250+.
*Warning: Manuka honey is not suitable for children under 12 months as it has been known to contain the bacteria spores
that cause botulism. People with diabetes should also avoid or limit their intake of honey due to its high glucose content.
