Thanksgiving marks a special time of year in which we
gather around the table with loved ones to express gratitude
and enjoy a delicious, bountiful feast. For this, we're sure

In anticipation of the move indoors for the colder months,
we have a selection of articles to help you prepare for chang-
ing weather. Our “Trailblazers” article (page 48) highlights

Manual” (page 38) pinpoints the best products to keep your
coif nourished, no matter your hair type; and our house-
keeping column (Around the House, page 82) provides an
ultimate checklist for cool-weather home maintenance.
On another topic, every once in a while there’s a story in
Canadian Living that gets us really excited—giving us more
than our normal sense of satisfaction and belief that we’re
bringing something important to all of our readers. This
issue we have one of those stories.
Have you heard of STEM? It’s an acronym for Science,
Technology, Engineering and Math, and is a way of group-
ing together these academic disciplines in order to highlight
and promote them in education curriculums all over the
world. It’s not new, but in today’s quickly changing world,

the value of STEM subjects is important when looking at
things such as ways to protect our natural resources, agri-
cultural concerns, advancement in energy programs, space
exploration and the like. You will also hear the word ban-
died about in discussions involving gender; traditionally, the
thinking has been that boys do better in STEM subjects,
so a focus has been on getting girls more engaged in techno-
