Texas Hill Country
In the region of Texas Hill Country, made up of gentle
rolling hills, green oaks, and wildflowers in roadside fields,
you can explore the backwoods and take time to soak
it all in. One place to go? Bandera, the self-proclaimed
cowboy capital, where riding horses and rodeo shows
rule at the Dixie Dude Ranch. There’s also Wimberley,
where a community of artists show off their work in
many galleries and 50 “Bootiful” boot sculptures lining
Ranch Road 12 through town. And finally a real favourite,
Fredericksburg, which was founded by a German, is
made up of Vaudeville-style beer gardens, bistros and
boutiques lining Main Street. This beautiful countryside
also boasts several wineries, notably the Narrow Path
Winery. You won’t be heading into dark cellars here, as
their tasting rooms are inside overlooking the vineyard or
outside on a gorgeous terrace. And if you’re up for more
adventure, there’s always Enchanted Rock. In the heart
of a state park, there’s an impressive hill you can climb
using a scenic trail which leads to a panoramic summit
view that’s well worth the effort.
