Start by choosing

your preferred

texture of founda-

tion: loose powder,

pressed powder,

cream or liquid?

Cream or liquid will

have hydrating

advantages, while a

powder will mattify.

The best base for

testing colours is on

clean, moisturized,

makeup-free skin. Find

a good spot that’s

well lit with natural

light and be sure

to wear a shirt

that doesn’t cover

your neckline.

Select three shades

you think might be a

good match (see pro

on figuring out if your

skin’s undertone is

cool, warm or neutral).

Apply each shade in a

vertical line, side by

side, starting at the

centre of your cheek

going down to your

collar bone. Because

the face gets more sun

exposure than the

neck, the skin tone

on the face, neck and

décolleté tends to

differ. The right shade
