GAFFES Show veteran
Kaye Adams in 2008

ONE of the original Loose Women, the
show let Kaye show a hilarious side of
her personality she could not express in
her career as a political journalist.
She has a long list of embarrassing
moments. “I once advised viewers in
the hot weather to put their sh**s in
the fridge but meant sheets. I
introduced Mary J Bilge instead of
Blige. And I called Gillian Taylforth her
EastEnders name, Kathy, for the
duration of the show, even though I dug
my nails into my flesh each time I did it.
“Also, when Nadia (Sawalha) and I
lived together in Manchester, I was with
her 24 hours so forgot our situation and
told her live on air, ‘Oh, you get on my
t*ts’. I got a row for that.”
More mortifying was her turn at the
Mirror’s 2014 Pride of Britain, where
Kaye didn’t realise her dress was
see-through. “I had a lovely night, then

looked at my phone, saw my bra and
knickers and even my belly button were
on show. I didn’t want to leave the
house for four days.”
The 56-year-old is angered by
snobby attitudes towards daytime TV,
saying: “I’ve always said, and will defend
it to the end, Loose Women is as
challenging a show to do as Newsnight
or a heavy political interview.”
She also relishes a barney with Carol
McGiffin, on and off air. “We love a fight.
Carol thinks I’m a soppy, wet leftie. I
think she’s to the right of Genghis Khan.
Yet we’re really fond of each other.”
And as one of the more reserved
panellists, Kaye is careful not to share
too much of her family life. “Over the
past four years my mum and dad both
passed away. Privately, Nadia has been
a huge support. But some things are a
little bit too raw to share on camera.”

HONEST Saira Khan
on the panel in 2016

HER stint on The Apprentice meant
that Saira Khan was already known for
being blisteringly direct, so she was the
perfect choice to join the Loose Women
panel four years ago.
But even she felt she said too much
when she confessed her sex life had
dwindled away two years ago and she
gave her husband permission to cheat.
Saira, 49, said: “In the moment, I got
swept away in to feeling I was in the pub
with my mates and said, ‘We’re just not
doing it any more’. I felt it was a
conversation a lot of knackered working
mums were probably having.
“But my husband Steven was really
upset when I got home. It made us
address it though. I realised I was peri-
menopausal – my hormones were all
over the place and I was a bit down.
“It wasn’t that I wasn’t in love with my
husband any more or that we were in

an open relationship. I regret that it
hurt Steven. But he was an absolute
star and came on the show to say we
were just going through a blip.”
And Saira isn’t afraid to say which
Loose Women guests she did not like,
including the leader of the Brexit Party.
“Nigel Farage – I could see that he
was a complete lie. He wasn’t the man
with a pipe and pie, but very calculating.
Like a true politician, he cleverly twisted
language around until he got his point
across. What an unpleasant man.”
When Saira revealed on air that she
was sexually abused at age 13 by a late
uncle, it led to the show’s pioneering
campaign It’s Never Too Late To Talk,
which encouraged people to talk about
historical sexual abuse. She says:
“People still come up to me to say that
they spoke out or had therapy after
hearing me. That means a great deal.”
