Pineapple is

world beater
THE world’s most expen-
sive pineapple has been
grown in a pile of manure.
A 15-man team spent
two years cultivating the
fruit at The Lost Gardens
of Heligan, in Cornwall, at
a cost of £1,250.
Pineapples do not grow
in the UK, so the heat from
horse manure is used.

A relative, Andrei Nemcev, wrote on
Facebook yesterday that he was “feeling
lost” and added he wished he could turn
back the clock.
The couple’s landlord, who did not
want to be named, said they moved into
the house more than two years ago.
He said: “They were a Latvian
couple. When she moved
here she was pregnant and
shortly after moving in
she had a baby.
“They had another
gentleman living with
them as well. He was a
family member. I never
had any issues.”
Another neighbour,
who asked not to be
named, said: “It’s shocking.
They seemed like a nice
family. I would see them
coming in and out of the
house and say hello.”
Forensic officers could be seen
yesterday going into the property, in
Burton-upon-Trent, Staffs, wearing
masks and white overalls.
A policeman stood guard over the
cordoned-off house and cars.

A TODDLER was rescued alive from
his home after a couple understood
to be his parents died in a suspected
murder-suicide.
Police and firefighters found the
bodies of a 32-year-old man and a
23-year-old woman inside the house.
Officers would not name them, but it
is believed they were Latvian pizza
chef Kiril Nemcev and his opti-
cian wife Lana Nemceva.
A boy aged two, discov-
ered unharmed, was
taken away. Another
man, believed to be a
lodger, was discharged
by paramedics.
Detectives said the
two deaths were being
investigated as “unex-
plained” and postmortems
would take place.
But sources said police
were treating them as a
murder-suicide and they
were not looking for other suspects.
Police and firefighters made the grim
discovery at the semi-detached rented
home on Wednesday night.
One eyewitness said: “I saw the fire
service and thought it was a house fire.
Then I saw a toddler being taken away.”
Photos posted on social media of the
couple showed Kiril, who worked at
