“I set out on a shoestring
trip through Asia. Luckily,
despite my embarrassing
and tiny budget of £5 per
day, I spotted tigers in
Nepal and watched wild
orangutans in Sumatra.”

Uzbekistan expert and
guidebook writer Sophie
began her love aair with
Tashkent a decade ago,
and goes back every few
months, constantly
adding to her list of
perfect day in the
sprawling capital (p179).

“I was seven – travelling
meant camping in France.
I remember sunshine,
biking and picnics, but
jumping in the deep end
of the campsite pool was
the undisputed highlight!”

“I was two years old, living
the toddler dream on
Sidmouth beach in Devon,
where I grew up. There’s
a great folk festival
there every August that
I highly recommend."
