I always read with great interest not only
the monthly magazine Spotlight, but also
its Lehrerbeilage, Spotlight in the Classroom.
Very often I find the challenging and fun
exercises useful, and they are also appre-
ciated by my students.
The board game “A walk through Lon-
don”, in issue 7/2019, immediately caught
my attention. I thought it would be an
interesting activity to do before the sum-
mer holidays, and perhaps even an idea

ceedings of an election campaign. It’s a
word that is being used very frequently
right now in press coverage of politics.
In the example here from The Washington
Post, Joe Biden, a former vice president
and current Democratic hopeful, is ob-
served as not making his presence known
out on the campaign trail with the same
intensity as other contenders from his
party. Another of the Post’s writers hopes
that Biden will hurry up and “get on the
hustings and persuade voters why he is
the right man for the job.”
Hustings comes from the Old Norse
word hūsthing, from hūs (house) + thing
(assembly), meaning an official gathering
of all the people important to a leader’s
household.Example:“Unlike his other Democratic rivals,
Biden isn’t hitting the public hustings
hard.”
