later graduated from CathedralHigh
School in Boston, MA.
In 1949, on an outing to Scholl’s
Riverview roller skating rink, the16-
year-oldHelen acceptedaninvitation
to skate from17-year-old Tommy
Lee. Thus beganalovethatremained
steadfast andstrong through 65 years
of marriage.
As ayoung bride,Helen movedto
Orange, TX, whereTomwas se rving in
the U.S. Navy.Theyreturned to Boston
ayearlater andeventually moved to
Brockton, MA,where they raised three
children.
Helen’s love of learning ledher to
workasateacher’saide at thePerkins
School in Brockton and laterasalibrar-
ian at theHuntington School, where
sheintroducedagener ationofyoung
readers to “MakeWay for Ducklings”
and other favo rite books.Helen was
alsoanenthusiastic volunteer forall
herchildren’sextracu rric ular activities,
serving asaGirlScout Troop Leader,
hunting downprops for schoolplays,
and craftingcenterpieces forSunday
Schoolbanquets.
In retirement, Helenand Tom
moved to theirhome inCenterville,
MA,where, everysummer for thirty
years, Helen hostedafestiveFourth
of July pa rtyfor th reegenerationsof
aunts, uncles, and cousins.Theyalso
enjoyed aseasonalresidenceinNaples,
FL,escapingthe cold NewEngland
winters.
Helen’s grea tpassion in lifewas
her familyand nothing gave hermore
delightthan hertwo grandchildren,
Jennifer a nd Andrew.She could often
be found in the bleachers cheeringJen
on toasoftball victory or applauding
Andrewonthe stage of HarwichJr.
Theatre.
Helen wasalsoanadventurous
travelerand enjoyed tripstoIreland,
Italy,England,France, andscores of
destinations throughout theUS,aswell
as cruises toHawaii and Alaska.
In addition to herbelovedhusband,
