reading the ball – where it could bounce, where shots could go
- and his timing is much more perfect than ours.
“It’s great to have him back. He’s a good fella, always positive,
always smiling, always drinking his tea! He’s the number
one goalkeeper for Brazil and he is talking always with Fab
and Roberto in Portuguese. Sometimes I even understand
something when they are talking!”
Lovren himself is also enjoying life back in the Liverpool team.
After returning from the 2018 World Cup finals with a recurring
stomach injury it took the Croatian international time to win his
place back in the side last season.
Having done so, a hamstring injury suffered at Wolves in
the FA Cup third round in January meant he was back on
the sidelines until March, by which time Joel Matip had been
playing so well in his absence that he retained his place
alongside Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the defence.
The 30-year-old made just 18 appearances in season 2018/19
and has made no secret that he considered his future in the
summer with a couple of Italian clubs reportedly interested.
But, after speaking to the manager and hearing that he
remained in his plans, he stayed on Merseyside and knuckled
down in training.
