A knee injury has kept Joel Matip absent from
the football and the training ield recently,
but while he recovers he’s been helping the
club’s oicial charity, LFC Foundation, bring
young and old together as part of its #iwill
campaign.
The Reds defender chatted with a group of
Year 6 pupils from Whiteield Primary School
in Anield as they showed residents from
Millachip nursing home how to use technology
such as video-calling to keep in touch with
friends and family – all part of addressing the
social isolation often found among the elderly
community.

events while Women’s players give breakfast club a boost!
Foundation has generated a total project
fund of £1.25m to deliver a three-year project
engaging more than 5,800 individual children
aged 10 to 14.
Joel said: “It’s great to see the diference
that the children want to make - they’re so
inspiring. Meeting the elderly fans was also
really special and I’m grateful to have been
asked to attend.”
Matt Parish, director of LFC Foundation,
said: “Children and young people play a key
role in communities and by participating in
programme’s like #iwill they feel empowered
because of the positive diference they have
made to their environment and society.“It’s been really rewarding to see how
things like mobile phones and bingo can
bring together the generations in a way
where everyone is having fun and learning
something.”
Meanwhile one of Joel’s team-mates,
Xherdan Shaqiri, is back in full training after
his own period in the treatment room, and
he’s also been in Kirkby to support the new
Walking Football programme launched by Red
Neighbours, the club’s community initiative.
