Hidesystem icons

Systemicons–suchastheclock,

powerandvolume–aredisplayedto

therightof thenotificationarea.Open

Settings,Personalisation,Taskbar and

click‘Turnsystemiconson oroff’.You

canusetheswitchestoshowor hide

items–forexample,ifyourcomputer

haskeyboardbuttonsforadjusting

theaudiovolume,youcanchoosenot

todisplaytheVolumesystemicon.

Someiconsonthetaskbarcandisplay

overlaidwithanumber. Thisisuseful

opentheSettingsappandclick

Personalisation,thenTaskbar.Turnon

sideof thetaskbarbydefault,

suchasExplorer,Microsoft

StoreandMail,butyoucan add more

if youwant. Runaprogramby

launchingitfromtheStartmenu,then

right-clickthetaskbaricon andselect

‘Pintotaskbar’. Launchingan app

fromthetaskbarismuchquickerthan

havingtofindit intheStartmenu.

Youcanusekeyboardshortcutsto

launchyourappsfromthetaskbar:

Win+1forthefirstappontheleft;

Win+2forthesecondandsoon.If

youhavealot ofprogramiconsinthe

taskbar, it canbeeasytogetthe

numberwrong,soclickanddragyour

mostusedtoolstotheleftofthe

taskbarandleavethelesserused

onesfurtheralongontheright.

Launch Windowsprogramsdirectlyfromthe taskbar

Addprogramstothe taskbar andstart them with Win+1, +2,+3and so on

Choosewhether iconsappearinthe

notification areaorare hidden from view

If yousee wordsthatlooklike

they’ve been typed in a

typewriter,followthe instructions

and type themexactly as they

appear,paying closeattentionto

spacesandpunctuation.
