Safety, the sharing economy and conscientious travel are
all issues on American travelers' minds as they consider
booking trips. However, according to the 29th annual
Travel Intelligence Portrait of American Travelers from global
consultancy MMGY, one of the most intriguing findings is
the enduring influence of the Great American Road Trip on
travelers in 2019.
This year, nearly two-thirds of travelers (63 percent) say
they intend to take a road trip in the next 12 months. A
popular variation is a new segment the survey calls Wings
& Wheels; travelers fly to a starting point and road trip
from there. This will likely influence "bleisure" for American

United States can be found in
the western state of Montana,
according to a new survey by
Luxury-Hotels.com. The Ranch
at Rock Creek, a 5-star 'dude'
ranch just outside the town of
Philipsburg, MT, topped the list
with a rate of at least $3,600 per
night during the summer.

The survey compared US
luxury hotel rates during 2019’s
peak summer months. Second
on the list is the Amangiri resort
in Canyon Point, UT, where the
lowest summer rate came out
at $2,661 per night. Another
ranch-style hotel, The Lodge &
Spa at Brush Creek in Saratoga,
WY, comes at $2,237 per night.

then rent a car for several days of added leisure (often with
family members).
The survey also found 60 percent of American travelers
consider overtourism when booking a trip, while nearly
half (48 percent) factor in climate change when choosing a
destination. Other findings include the importance of the
sharing economy for accommodations, and the strength
of travel among Baby Boomers and Gen-Xers rather than
Millennials, who increasingly cite safety concerns when
looking at destinations.

Two other Montana ranches
in the “Big Sky” state appear
among the most expensive
hotels, according to the survey.
The Resort at Paws Up ($1,516)
in the small town of Greenough
and the Triple Creek Ranch
($1,400) in Darby both make
the top ten. Meanwhile, New
York State's most expensive

summer hotel is The Point, in
Lake Placid with a minimum
rate of $2,327 per night for the
least expensive double room.
