WilliamandJaneMorris,is comingtoDovecotStudiosinEdinburghthis
winter.Attheageof23,MaytookchargeoftheMorris& Co.embroidery
departmentandwasresponsibleforcreatingsomeofthecompany’smost
iconictextilesandwallpaperdesigns.MayMorris:Art& Lifeexploresthe
arcofhercreativepursuits,featuringwallpaperandembroideryalongside
jewellery,dressesandbookdesigns,aswellassketchesandwatercolours,
whichMaypaintedandcreatedthroughoutherlifetime.ForArts& Crafts
devoteeswhodidn’tgetthechancetoseetheexhibitionin2017/18at the
WilliamMorrisGalleryinLondon,thisis a fantastic opportunity.

StFaith’sChurchinBacton(Herefordshire)capturedtheattentions
of EleriLynn,Curatorof HistoricalDress,whowasresearchingher
bookonTudorfashion.Buthowonearthdida pieceof theQueenof
England’swardrobemakeitswaytothiscornerof ruralEngland,you
mightask?It seemsthatoneof Elizabeth’sfaithfulservants,Blanche
Parry,wasborninBactonandthealtarclothwasgiftedtothechurch
inhermemory.Thethreemotifshavebeenchosenforthesamplesthat
willbeusedintheworkshopsincludinga daffodil,roseandthistle.
