THERE’S NOTHING QUITE LIKE THE
waxy appeal of a Barbour jacket. Timeless,
stylish and reliable, Barbour has become a
symbol of country life with wardrobe essentials
that are as British as can be. This year, Barbour
is celebrating its 125th anniversary, a signifi-
cant milestone for a company that has been
owned by the same family since 1894 (it’s now
reached the fifth generation). From its humble
beginnings supplying mariners with oilskins
in South Shields in the northeast of England,
Barbour has grown into an instantly recognis-
able global lifestyle brand – without losing its
classic charm. The styles have evolved and
expanded, yet the founding principles of qual-
ity, durability and being fit for purpose have
remained at the forefront.
To celebrate this anniversary, Barbour has
created the Icons Re-Engineered collection, a
limited edition range comprising five men’s
and five women’s jackets. Each of the
reimagined pieces is inspired by one from
Barbour’s archives and each represents a
significant period in the company’s history,
updated with contemporary flair. ‘The
collection offers an authentic contemporary
take on design classics from the archives and
celebrates the important milestones,’ says Paul

Wilkinson, Barbour’s Global Marketing and
Commercial Director. ‘Each is a jacket with a
history and heritage to be discovered.’ All of
the jackets feature the distinctive Dress
Gordon lining (which was particularly popular
in the 1980s) with classic green, black and
white hues of tartan beautifully streaked with
golden thread. The collection also introduces
the sleeveless 125th anniversary Betty Liner,
which has been designed to go under any of
the jackets to provide additional warmth,
picking up the gold thread of the traditional
tartan in luxurious piped detailing.
