↓ Allison Tolman and Alexa Swinton

A power outage. A plane crash. The discovery of a little girl (Alexa
Swinton) with no memory of who she is or where she came from.
This twisty new series is rife with mystery and stars the always-
excellent Allison Tolman (Fargo) as the small-town sheriff who
wants to solve it. Showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas
(Reaper, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World) cite films like E.T. and
Close Encounters of the Third Kind as touchstones for Emergence,
which they envision as something the whole family can enjoy. And
they promise that viewers won’t be waiting for answers. “That’s a
trap that you can get into with these types of shows: to make it all
about ‘we’re going to surprise the audience,’ ” says Butters. “It’s
not about that. It’s about the characters.” —SARAH RODMAN
