ell I’m so excited to share with you my
finished and framed winter stitching
project, called ‘Majestic Eagle’. I was amazed
to stumble across this beautiful American bald
eagle kit in a thrift shop. It was never
opened and the price was sure right! I
started this project at the beginning
of November 2018 and completed
it at the end of May 2019. Then it
went off to the framers this summer.
It is a kit by Sunset Dimensions,
stitched on 16-count dove grey
aida. All the colours are blended
in the eagle and tree
branches. I turned
this project into quite
the challenge, as I
switched many of
the full cross stitches
and turned them
into ¼ stitches to
add ‘roundness’ to
the branches and
‘sharpness’ to the
wing tips on the
bald eagle.

I learnt a funny lesson with this project. As it
was winter, I was often wearing cosy, fibrous
sweaters – but be careful as the fibres can get
stitched into your work. I couldn’t believe it!
Luckily, I got them out by gently dabbing
the aida with Scotch Tape.
It looks three-dimensional and has a
West Coast of British Columbia feel to
it. I hope my work is inspiring and other
readers can relate to stitching in the
winter and altering a pattern to make it
their own, so that they turn their work
into a masterpiece as well!

ello! I was going through my WOXS
magazines when I came across the
first issue that I ever bought, which was
issue 250 (Jan 2017). It was a fab one as you
celebrated printing 250 issues! My friend is
mad about horses and she had a daughter
last year, so I completed the ‘Carousel

Horse’ as a gift for her 2nd birthday. It’s the
first time I have used beads and gold thread.
I really enjoyed doing this project! Everyone
is impressed with the outcome. Thank you!

Sue: What a stunning and detailed result –
well done and thanks for the memory!

many future anniversaries.
