Q

I’m sure I have seen a
small design of a
kingfisher before in your
magazine. Please could you
share the magazine issue,
as I really want to use this
as a card for my daughter.
Lorna Wray,

A

Katriel: We featured
an alphabet set of
kingfishers by Maria Diaz
in issue 268 (June 2018).
They’d be great as a card,
spelling out your daughter’s
name, or you can stitch the
birds individually. This is out
of print, but is available as a
digital issue via our Android
and Apple apps.

Q

I’m looking for the chart
for a red Porsche that I’ve
seen in an old issue of The
World of Cross Stitching. I’m
from Denmark, so I’m looking
to get hold of it digitally.
Frederikke, via Facebook

A

Hannah: It sounds like
what you’re looking for is
issue 125, which featured this
stunning car by Joanne
Sanderson. As this issue came
out in 2007 it’s not available

digitally I’m afraid. Although
you’re a little limited by
country, it’s still worth posting
your query in our Facebook
group, in case anyone in this
great stitching community has
a copy of the magazine they
would be willing to send you.
Simply ask to join the group if
you’ve not already done so,
then post your question.
Hopefully someone on there
can help you track down this
striking design!

Sacred stitch
Elephant-headed Ganesh is one of the most
worshipped deities in the Hindu pantheon

Q

I’m looking for a chart of
the Hindu elephant god
Ganesh. Would you be able to
create one for me, Jenny?
Sue Baldwin,
via Facebook

A

Jenny: As well as being
the god of wisdom,
Ganesh is also the patron of
arts, so it’s appropriate to
translate him into cross stitch!
This depiction of the elephant-
headed god uses whole cross
stitch, fractionals and
backstitch, and shows him
holding his traditional symbols
of an axe and a lotus blossom.
