Project Biscornu Pincushions

1 Cross stitch the front and back of your chosen
biscornu designs – including the backstitch border which
needs to be stitched one square at a time. Cut both pieces
leaving a border measuring 1cm (½in) around the edges of
the stitching. Fold and press along the square backstitch
outline, towards the wrong side of your stitching... this
makes the next stage much easier.

2 Use the backstitch borders to ‘link’ the front and
back pieces together. Holding them back-to-back, begin
by using a pin to mark the middle stitch of one backstitch
border on the front and line it up with a corner stitch
of the back. Thread your needle with two strands in the
same colour used for the backstitch border, and whipstitch
between the two stitches indicated by your pin. Take care
to pass your needle underneath the backstitch but not the
weave of the fabric.

3 Continue working all around the two squares,
passing your needle underneath the backstitches on
each stitch. Stop stitching when you come to the 7th side,
leaving a gap of around 2cm (¾in).

4 Stuff your biscornu, neatly filling it for a firm finish,
then continue whipstitching to close the gap. Hide your
secured thread ends inside.

5 Form the dimple shape by stitching from front
to back through the centre of the biscornu using white
thread, keeping your thread taut and finish it off securely.
