Meet our guests

Fave ever stitching project?
A project I designed myself – a
poem for my mum for Mother’s Day.
I decorated it with flowers and an
intricate vine as a border.
Worst stitching disaster?
Trying to blend Kreinik thread! I didn’t
read up on how to use it and it kept
splitting and getting in a knot. It was
for a wizard project I was doing and
it was very frustrating. I put it back in
my bag for an “I’ll do it later” project!
Fave WOXS design?
I love most of the designs, but
‘Henry VIII’ in issue 285 (October
2019) is definitely on my to-stitch list.
What do you love the most
about cross stitching?
The time it gives me to relax but also
produce beautiful images that can be
framed and will last
for years. I always
initial and date my
pictures in the hope
they will be handed
down to family later.

Fave recent WOXS design?
‘Cocker Spaniel’ from issue 282
(July 2019). It would be fab with hooks
along the bottom to hang leashes and
harnesses for all my dogs!
Your most
memorable
moment?
When I showed
my dad a design
I made for him
of a bluebird on
a branch. He has
Alzheimer’s and doesn’t respond to
much, but he grabbed me for a hug.
I cried with happiness.
Who are your stitching buddies?
I belong to a cross stitch group, and
I also stitch with family and friends.
Best ever compliment?
I made my son a tree frog design that
he appreciated so much. He’s excited
for me to frame it so he can hang it in
his room with his real tree frogs.
What’s stitching heaven for you?
Having lots of charts to work on!

How did you start stitching?
I remember stitching at school when
I was much younger, and I seem to
have been stitching ever since.
What are you stitching now?
A birth sampler for my new
grandson. My husband and I have 11
grandchildren and I have stitched for
each one of them.
WOXS design you love?
I would love to stitch a Tomte
bookmark from issue 286
(November 2019) for my son.
It’s been years since I made
anything for him! He has
a home of his own with
gnomes in his garden so that
would be quite appropriate.
Fave ever project?
My wildflower alphabet
which I turned into a fire
screen. It was a real labour
of love, but the flowers are
so delicate and detailed
that it was worth it – I
enjoyed every single stitch.
