Pet of the Month

Pet of the month

We know you’re huge fans of pets, so have us design a cross stitch of a beloved animal!

Q

I am a massive fan
of lop rabbits and
really hope that one
day I can own a lop of
my own. In the meantime, it would be
amazing if you could chart me one so
I can make my own cross-stitched version!

Durene says: I’m not surprised
that you love this type of rabbit so
much, Lindsay – who can resist those
droopy ears and cute button nose?
Certainly not me – I’ve become a big fan
of these bunnies after designing this cutie!
This sweet little lop rabbit is brought
to life using six different shades of
grey threads, plus some white, with a
turquoise background adding a pretty
complementary colour. The design uses
mostly whole cross stitches and a few
fractionals with just some backstitch
detail, so it won’t take you long to
complete your rabbit.
The finished design size is just right for
popping into a 4in wooden hoop, which
we’ve embellished here with thread – a
great way for adding colour as well as
using up any scrap threads in your stash!

Project

  • A lop rabbit is any type of rabbit
whose ears droop down, rather than
    standing erect.

  • There are a number of lop
breeds, including the mini lion lop,
    dwarf lop and cashmere lop.

    • Because of their ear shape, lop
rabbits need a lot of attention so they
      don’t develop any health problems.

    • Like other breeds of rabbits,
lops are highly social creatures and
      live best in pairs.
