One of our dogs has several
annoying behaviors. Our vet
says some of them are ob-

wants to put him on drugs.

OWNING a pet can often be a
puzzling experience. NATIONAL
ENQUIRER columnist Dr. Jeff
LaCroix — a top veterinarian
— answers reader questions

DID YOU KNOW?

That’s the percentage of American
women who will develop invasive
breast cancer over the course of
their lifetime. Maintain a healthy
diet and have regular checkups
for early detection and the best
treatment options!

A SINGLE 20-minute bike ride can keep your brain sharp in your
golden years, according to new research from the University of
Iowa. Scientists found one workout can spark a burst of activity
in the brain’s memory center in people age 60 to 80. The study’s
subjects performed better in memory tests after a short stint of
pedaling. But the results were temporary, so researchers urge
people to stay active to keep their brains in top shape!

PROCESSED burgers
and fries can come with
a side of the blues for
your teens, according to
a University of Alabama
study. Researchers
discovered that high levels
of sodium and low levels
of potassium, which are
common in
many fast
food meals,
lead to
depression.
“The study
findings
make sense,
as potassium-
rich foods are
healthy foods,”

said dietitian Lisa Drayer.
“So, if adolescents include
more potassium-rich foods
in their diet, they will likely
have more energy and feel
better overall.”

BIKING BOOSTS

THE BRAIN!

FAST FOOD SINKS MOOD!

DRINKING red wine gives
people healthier guts with
more diverse bacteria,
which allows them to
better break down food and
reduces obesity. British
researchers reported red
wine contains compounds
believed to act as fuel for
healthy bacteria in the
stomach. What’s more, red
wine may lead to increased
good cholesterol levels
and boost the immune
system! But don’t overdo
it — the scientists said one
glass every two weeks is
plenty to positively affect
digestion.
