‘RGB’ STORAGE SYSTEM
by Stefan Diez
Made from pieces of semi-transparent
coloured glass, the ‘RGB’ storage system,
designed by Stefan Diez for Burgbad,
brings strong pops of colour to the bathroom
and beyond. When light shines through
each piece, brilliant hues are cast onto the
surrounding walls. Installation is simple,
and Diez has devised an inconspicuous
wall-mounted rail and fastening system
onto which the panes of glass click into
place. Drawers and storage compartments
can be added as necessary. The collection
marks the first in a series of capsule
collaborations planned by Burgbad.

‘BALNEA’ SHOWER TRAY
by Elisa Ossino
Elisa Ossino’s latest collaboration with
Salvatori was inspired by the use of white
Carrara marble in some of the world’s
most famous buildings and sculptures.
The Sicilian-born, Milan-based Ossino drew
on her background as a trained architect
and went monumental when it came to
carving up her ideas, one of which is this
monolithic shower tray, whose soft rounded
form is naturally patterned by the marble’s
smoky grey veins. Its sturdy presence is
softened by flowing linen curtains, which
drape around the inside of the tray, leaving
a glimpse of its edge from the outside.

‘EQUAL’ TOILET
by Claudio Bellini
With his new collection for VitrA, Italian
architect and designer Claudio Bellini set out
to create bathroom furniture with a distinct
character, yet still minimal and clutter-free.
His ‘Equal’ collection fuses simple geometric
forms and organic shapes, and comprises
washbasins, bidets, storage units, mirrors
and toilets, which are moulded with rounded
corners on both pan and lid. Hygiene has
also played a big part in the design, which is
rimless in a bid to prevent any hard-to-reach
germs. ‘Equal’ aims to create the illusion
of fluidity, using smooth edges to mimic
the cavities found in nature, alongside more
structured lines to ground the aesthetic.

‘ATRIO ICON’ TAP
by Grohe
3D printing has become a ubiquitous tool
for many designers and architects. Now,
Grohe wants in on the action and has used
the technology to create an ultra-slimline
tap, the ‘Atrio Icon’. For the company’s vice
president of design, Michael Seum, the key
thing when it came to creating the tap was
to make it so light that you ‘wonder how
it works at all’. He set his team the task
of stripping back an existing ‘Atrio’ design
until the form took shape. The 3D printer
then built the tap up, layer by layer, using
a raw metal material. Finally, the tap went
from machine to man to be hand finished
by a grinding and polishing artist. From
a side-on view, it appears as a standard
faucet, but when viewed from above, the
full extent of its narrow design is revealed.
‘You just cannot imagine where the water
comes from,’ says Seum.
