SMILJAN RADIĆ

Architect
Chilean architect Smiljan Radić is best
known for otherworldly ideas on a small
scale, such as his bulbous, doughnut-shaped
Serpentine Pavilion in 2014. He created
our limited-edition cover, which sees
Renaissance architect Francesco di Giorgio
Martini’s robust tower in Cagli become
a wash of earthly watercolours and ‘similar
to a fragile ghost’. Radić talks about his design
for Alexander McQueen stores, launched
with a new London flagship, in our Architects
of fashion story (page 133).

MARILI ANDRE

Photographer
We asked Andre – who rarely shoots male
models – to turn the tables on the stereotype
of the ‘bourgeois wife’ with an irreverent
portrayal of the stay-at-home husband; see
our fashion story on page 218. Lately, Andre,
who lives and works in London, has become
re-enchanted by the challenge of street
photography and is compiling a collection of
images from around Europe, including ‘back
home’ in Crete: ‘The action of walking and
shooting makes me truly happy.’

GIORGIO ARMANI

Fashion designer
Presiding over a sprawling empire that
includes fashion, furniture, food and
hospitality, Mr Armani (as all devotees call
him) is an icon of our times, but especially of
Milan, where he maintains his headquarters
and Armani/Silos exhibition space.
Following the launch of the new Emporio
Armani Caffè & Ristorante in the city, he
responded to our Artist’s Palate invitation
with a distinctly local dish: saffron risotto
with scallops, orange and fennel (page 234).

JULIEN T HAMON

Photographer
‘Discovering the view of Lisbon rooftops
was amazing,’ says Paris-based Hamon
of arriving in the hillside house where
he photographed one of this issue’s
womenswear stories (page 168). The
location was Casa do Monte, designed
by Leopold Banchini Architects with
Daniel Zamarbide. It’s the third Wallpaper*
collaboration for Hamon, who shoots
portraits, landscapes and fashion with
cinematic distinction.

NILS BINNBERG

Writer
Berlin local Binnberg explored the evolution
of German accessories label Lutz Morris,
and the intricate making of its leather bags
(page 129). ‘I enjoyed travelling to the factory
near Düsseldorf and learning about a craft
that could have been forgotten but is being
preserved,’ he says. Following the success
of his recent book, Ich habe es satt! (I have
had enough!), his schedule is fully packed
with lectures and panel discussions on the
Western world’s (sometimes unhealthy)
obsession with healthy eating.

LAURA RYSMAN

Writer
Tuscany-based Rysman was deployed to
the Florence studio of polymath artist and
designer Duccio Maria Gambi to discuss
his eccentric, craft-oriented approach to
retail architecture for one-year-old fashion
label Plan C, as part of our Architects
of fashion story (page 133). According to
Rysman, Gambi’s ‘explicitly imperfect
geometries reveal a beautiful human touch’.
Rysman is constantly shuttling up and down
the Italian peninsula in search of ideas.
‘There are so many stories to tell,’ she says.
