NURIA MORAGREGA

Cake Mistress

Inspired by 1950s Hollywood
glamour and Marilyn Monroe’s
iconic image in 1954 where
she was caught by wind
blowing up from a subway, I
wanted to create something
with movement. The dress
has a contrasting underside
and I used quilling to create a
pleated underskirt.

Step 1.
Roll out thin layers of black and white gum paste. Lay the black layer on
top of the white, roll with a rolling pin and lightly texture so they stick
together. Add very little water between the layers if necessary. Cut to
shape and arrange on the cake using pieces of rolled kitchen paper to
support. Allow to dry completely.

Step 2.
Cut thin strips of white wafer paper and arrange at the base of the dress.
Apply with very little piping gel.

Step 3.
Once the dress is dry, remove the kitchen paper and apply various sized
silver dragees around the cake as shown.
