Sweet Side of Cakes

My piece is based on and

inspired by the Chinese

legend, Mulan. I remember my

mum told me about this story

when I was a little girl. Mulan’s

traditional dress was created

with wafer paper using the

quilling technique.

Step 1.

Cut out a silhouette from a thin gum paste sheet.

Step 2.

Whilst the silhouette dries, cut strips from coloured wafer paper.

Step 3.

Fill the silhouette with quilled wafer paper using a quilling tool. Glue on

the silhouette with thick edible glue.
