We spoke to Brittanie from
@brittanie.bakes about the
Striped Cake Collab on Instagram!

Tell us about your collaboration
This collaboration was all about
stripes! Whether piped or made
using frosting combs, the goal was
to incorporate a striped look with
a smooth cake tummy. Outside of
that, bakers could use any other
techniques or designs so their
personal style would be reflected.

What inspired you to do this
theme?
I wanted to focus on a theme that
could help gently push bakers
out of their comfort zone, so I
took suggestions for decorating
techniques in my Instagram Stories.
There were about a dozen different
ideas tossed out and ‘striped cakes’
was the most popular. Stripes are
something I incorporate regularly in
my cakes so I felt confident hosting
a large scale collaboration with this
as a focus. It was a great opportunity
for participants to grab their striped
frosting combs and put them to
work!

Tell us about a few of the pieces
that have been made
The great thing about this theme
was it was an excellent design base
with plenty of creative freedom!
The stripe styles range from piped
on and smoothed out to scratchy
or clean edges made with a comb.
Bakers incorporated drips, candy,
sprinkles, cookies, sails or piped
details as they wanted, which just
added to the beautiful variety we
ended up with on posting day!

Can you choose one piece in the
collaboration, and talk to us about
the techniques used to make it?
One of my favourites from the group
was created by Neliana (@cakes.
of.gratitude). Her cake was a mixture
of clean edges and overlapped
stripes that had an almost painted
on appearance; her colour choices
were gorgeous and unexpected. I
reached out to her about how she
got the look and she said the colour
