Handles

For some cakes, leaving the silver plastic
handles on show works great. For this
design, I felt a brown leather handle
would be better. Below are two options
for this.

Steps 7a & b.
Option 1: With a sausage of chocolate
paste, cover the handle being sure to
keep the bottom free and clear of paste
so when you pick it up, you don’t squash
the handle. It’s always best to allow 24
hours to completely harden.

Steps 8a-c.
Option 2: You could switch the handle
completely and make something out of
wire, material or even a real handbag
strap. In this case, cut and bend armature
wire using keyring clips at the end to
secure to the support loops of the
handbag kit. Again, cover the wire in
chocolate paste and allow to harden then
attach to the kit.

Purse

I couldn’t resist making this extra little
cake – a purse to match the handbag.
Although this time, I chose spots instead
of tartan stripes.

Steps 9a & b.
After cutting, filling and ganaching a
small 3x4” cake, put a zip mould all the
way around three sides and cover in
chocolate paste. Given a thin coat of grey
sugarpaste just like the bag. Allow to firm
up overnight then using round stickers as
stencils, airbrush the purse with red and
simply peel the stickers away! Simple but
so effective.
