A couple of years ago, I received the
Cake Masters Best Cake Support Award.
It was a complete surprise that night as
no nominees had been announced in
advance. I saw the award on my bookcase
this week and got to thinking about why it
was only given out that one year. It turns
out every decorator wanted to nominate
their husband, mum, sister, best friend.
You see, it is all about family. There is no
way we could do what we do without the
support of those in our lives.

For all the negativity that can come with
social media, it also has some real perks.
How on earth would a decorator from
Oklahoma become close friends with a
decorator in Dublin without it? Social
media has brought people into our lives
and expanded our family exponentially.
I’m not sure how we can care so much for
people that we haven’t even met in real
life, but we do. These Facebook ‘friends’
have become family to us.

I’m sure some people would look at that
statement and not believe it, but I’ve seen
it in action. When Molly Robbins had a fire
at her cake studio, the cake community
immediately wanted to help get her back
on her feet. When hurricanes hit south
Texas, decorators helped other decorators
get back to operations. When decorators
have lost spouses or had cancer diagnosis,
other decorators are there for them. I’ve
watched so much good in this industry
that it is easy for me to ignore the trolls.
When we need each other, we show
that this truly is a sweet industry. We are
family.

This toasted marshmallow
cake by Lori’s Custom
Cakes is too adorable for
words! The burnt effect
is super realistic and the
kawaii facial details finish
it off to perfection.

How awesome are these detailed
cookies by Burnt Cookies by
Murrah? We especially love the
simply gorgeous stained glass
window effect. The birthday cake
design is right on-trend with the
fault line design, and the pineapple
cookie is super summery!

Made for a golden wedding
anniversary garden party, this cake
by Lee Farmer has such beautiful
bright colours! The intricate birds
are really cute and the bold leaves
contrast so well with the black.

We’re in awe of the talent shown
by Art Biscotti. This cookie design
looks like a painting with such tiny
details on the hair and face.
