Step-by-Step Photo-Based Painting


This painting includes two original photographs. The tree photo has been printed
twice, once as a positive image, and then as a negative. To create the negative,
in Photoshop. go to Image/Adjustments/Invert. You may also need to increase the
contrast to ensure that there's a clear distinction between black and white.

Cut or tear photos and other papers Arrange them
in an interesting design on the canvas. Glue them
down by applying matte medium first to the can·
vas. then to the reverse of the papers. If you want^2
the collage to lie flat. smooth out with a brayer. Some of
the patterned tissue paper has been allowed to wrinkle
to provide texture.

Using a sponge or a nylon brush. apply Violet
Oxide as a glaze unevenly to different areas.
rubbing it in with a paper towel. Dry with a hair
dryer.
