Creative Paint Workshop for Mixed-Media Artists

(ff) #1

BOARD

Masonite is cheap and can be bought in hardware stores,
or in art stores, where typically it can be cut to specified
sizes for you. It can be covered with several layers of gesso
in preparation for painting, or you can begin with a layer
of collaged paper. Since it warps easily, it's a good idea to
frame it sooner rather than later to brace it. You can also
glue stretcher bars or pieces of wood to the back to form
a "cradle." Companies such as Ampersand sell pre-cradled
wooden panels. Birch plywood is another possibility.
