Creative Paint Workshop for Mixed-Media Artists

Materials for

Creating Texture

It is important to recognize that textures form a vital part
of the composition. The more prominent the te xture, the
more likely it will become either a focal point or a distrac-
tion. The addition of te xture to a plain painted area can
bring it dramatically to life, but it also needs to be integrat-
ed into the composition as a whole. There are many ways
to do this, depending on the nature of the collage material.

Some textured materials are translucent when covered in
matte medium. This makes them useful for veiling what lies
beneath, adding a touch of mystery.
