Grisedale Beck,

T


he footpath running up Grisedale
from Patterdale will lead you to
the spectacular upper reaches
of Grisedale Beck. The face of Eagle
Crag dominates the view, with the
higher peaks of Nethermost Pike and
Dollywaggon Pike completing the
skyline beyond. Through this rugged
terrain fl ows Grisedale Beck itself,
completing a beautiful scene with
photographic opportunity in abundance.

How to get there From Windermere,
take the A592 over the Kirkst one Pass
and into Patt erdale, parking opposite
the Patt erdale Hotel. Continue along
the road on foot and turn left up the
lane aft er the playing fi eld. Follow this
lane until it turns into a footpath running
alongside Grisedale Beck; continue for
approximately one and a half miles.
What to shoot The dramatic rocks of
Eagle Crag and the mountains beyond,
together with the fl owing st ream.
Best time of day Morning is best for
shooting up the river; later in the day
for shots back towards Ullswater.

Creag a’ Chalamain, Highland


T


he river that meanders through
the Cairngorms into Loch
Morlich provides a natural
leading line to Castle Hill, with Creag
a’ Chalamain in the background. This
roadside viewpoint is easily accessible
and provides panoramic views of the
mountains and Loch Morlich. Soft
light during the winter months gives
a warm glow to the snowy moorland.

How to get there From Aviemore rail
st ation, travel south on the B9152.
At the roundabout take the fi rst left
on to the B970 and continue for 10
miles. Park at the lower car park and
walk back along the B970 for around
half a mile. Take the left fork and the
viewpoint is at the road edge.
What to shoot Mountain views, lochs,
rivers, forest s and wildlife.
Best time of day Sunrise and sunset;
during winter you can shoot all day.
