Goodwood, the quintessentially English
estate home to a blue-blooded dynasty
and centuries of sporting tradition

F

or many of us, Goodwood is the quintessential
English estate. Home to a dynasty of blue-
blooded aristocrats, the Dukes of Richmond,
it has all the ingredients of a traditional stately
home, including a fabulous art collection, beautiful
parkland, extensive acreage and an illustrious heritage.
But it is for sport that Goodwood is chiefly known.
Nowhere else in Britain can you enjoy such a diverse
range of activities all in one place: horseracing, motor
racing, golf, flying, shooting and cricket – each one
stemming from a personal passion of one of the dukes.
The 1st Duke of Richmond was an illegitimate son
of King Charles II and his French mistress, Louise de
Kérouaille. As a young man, he came to Goodwood
