All ears
IF YOU HAVE DIFFICULTY
FINDING THE HOLE WHEN
PUTTING ON EARRINGS,
RUB A LITTLE MOISTURISER
ON EACH LOBE AND THE
PIN WILL EASILY SLIDE IN.
THIS ALWAYS WORKS
FOR ME.

JUST ADD SALT
Give yellowing gardenias
a boost by watering with
a solution of one teaspoon
Epsom salt dissolved in
nine litres of water.

LEAF IT TO ME
An old kitchen
spatula is the
perfect tool to lift
and clear leaves and
debris from guttering.

WIRE WORK
To repair a protruding
underwire in a bra, push it
back into place, then cover
with a strip of adhesive
“moleskin” blister padding
(from chemists), pressing
it firmly into place.

Edging ahead: For an extra neat and firm ribbed edge on a knitted

garment, cast on required number of stitches, work ‘k1tbl’ (through back
loop), ‘p1’ for the entire first row, then rib as normal.

Q: My chrome chairs
have a fine film of rust
on the arms and legs.
How can I remove it?
A: Use a damp
rag sprinkled with Bar
Keepers Friend (from
specialist kitchen stores)
to scrub away the rust,
then wipe with a clean
wet cloth and buff dry.
To prevent a recurrence,
wipe chairs frequently
with a cloth sprayed
with silicon polish.

● Space saver
If space is at a premium
in your shower, install a
tension-loaded curtain
rod, add curtain rings
with clips, and hang up
plastic tubes of shampoo,
conditioner and face wash,
as well as sponges and
cloths, so they’re all within
easy reach.
● Plant the seed
Reuse a parmesan or herb
container with a sprinkle
top to shake grass seed on
bare spots in your lawn –
the holes are the perfect
size for dispensing just the
right amount.
● Handle with care
Screw a wooden pallet
to the wall of your shed
or garage at ground level.
It makes a great space
for storing long-handled
tools and brooms.
