Spring

As we welcome warmers days, it’s time to spring clean your

beauty regime. Megan Bedford shares her top tips.

forward

Exfoliate & tan
Thick winter tights, feeling too cold to
moisturise and lingering in hot showers are
all aspects of winter that can make your skin
feel dry, scaly and neglected. First up, you
need to slough off those sluggish skin cells,
removing the dullness that can creep in
and revealing fresher skin primed for some
summer colour. Face and body need different
products but the same rules apply to both

  • look for a gentle scrub or products with
alpha hydroxy acids that help smooth the
surface of your skin. AHAs are particularly
useful if you suffer from keratosis pilaris (fine
bumps sometimes referred to as chicken skin)
    on your arms and legs.
Follow with a hydrating lotion or, if you’re
ready for a touch of colour, apply a body
cream that contains a gradual tanning agent.
They are generally very subtle so they work
well on everyone, even very pale skin tones.
Just apply on subsequent days if you’d like
    a slightly deeper shade.
Need a tan in a hurry? Instant-colour body
products have come a long way. Rub a touch
between palms and smooth over legs. Wait a
minute or two to dry before dressing. A touch
of shimmering body oil down shins can also
give legs a flattering, leg-lengthening sheen.

Switch to a tint
We tend to wear fuller-coverage
foundations in winter but warmer
days encourage us to seek out
products with a sheerer finish.
They’re flattering and youthful
and allow your natural glow to
peek through. Hydrating tinted
moisturisers that are buildable
and feature skincare nutrients
and SPF give a flattering, youthful
and healthy finish, perfect for
reviving dry skin.

Embrace colour
Smoky eyes and nude lips are
perennial faves but there’s nothing
like a pop of colour for adding
vitality and fun to a look that’s
been a bit same-same. A touch of
hydrating gloss or a lip stain are the
easiest options for bright hues, as
you can start sheer and work your
way up to eye-catching colour.
