Best
foot
forward

For months our feet
have been confined
to closed-in shoes
and given little to
no attention. With
sandal season fast
approaching, it’s
worth giving their
appearance some
consideration. A
do-it-yourself peel
treatment, loaded
with exfoliating
alpha-hydroxy
acids, will work
its magic to break
down layers of
accumulated dry
skin. Within a few
days, dead skin
will naturally fall
away and you’ll
be rewarded with
baby-smooth soles.
Then it’s just a
matter of being
dedicated with
a rich foot cream
to keep them soft,
hydrated and
crack-free.

Blitz those zits
It’s hard to feel confident stripping down for spring
when you’re having a breakout on your back or chest.
Treat problem areas separately to the rest of your
skin with ingredients such as glycolic or salicylic acid.
They will help unplug pores and prevent a build-up of
dead skin cells in which acne-loving bacteria flourish.
Hormonal spots appearing on your face? Try a serum
designed for mature skin that aims to balance surface
conditions so breakouts are less frequent.

Serum, $130. Alba Botanica AcneDote Scrub, $20.

Up your defences
Longer days bring the potential for more UV exposure, so always be prepared.
When applied generously, a moisturiser with SPF will give you some protection
but keep in mind that it won’t be enough if you are spending extended
time outdoors. For prolonged periods, dermatologists recommend the regular
application of sunscreen. Thankfully, the new wave of sunscreens on offer
are light enough to wear under your foundation without clogging pores and
suffocating your skin, and some even come tinted to do two jobs in one.

SPF 35, $69. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Fluid SPF50, $25.

Switch out

your serums

A change of season is
often enough to trigger
a stress response in our
skin that shows up as
redness, dryness and an
overall lack of radiance.
If left untreated, this
sort of inflammation
can accelerate ageing,
which is why we are
seeing an increase in
skincare that focuses
on calming the skin
and strengthening its
barrier. Look out for
these new-generation
serums that work to
balance the skin and
make it more resilient
to such changes while
refining its texture
and clarity.
