NoteThissetismadeusinga specialtechniquecalledlanternlight
andismadeoftwolayers—thetoplacelayeranda simplestocking
stitchlayerina contrastyarn.Thismakesthefabricdoublein
thickness.Toachievethesamethickness,theribandthecrownof
thebeanie(ortopandbottomofthecowlor hand warmers) are
worked by holding two strands of yarn.

Singlestrandlayersas well as two-strand parts are worked on the
same size needles.

InthelacepatternonWSrowsworkK1,P1intodoubleloopof'YO
twice'.Thisisshownonthechartandin the written stitch pattern.

SPECIALTECHNIQUES
PICKINGUPSTITCHESFORLIGHTSECTION
Startingwithtwostrandsofyarnworktheedgeandrib(in
correspondingcolours),thencutoffonestrandofYarnA and
continuetoworktheLanternCageLacePatternwithonestrandof
yarn. After the lace is finished leave stitches on a stitch holder.

TomaketheLanternLightLayer,foldthelacelayerdowntothe
outsideofthework,sothatyoucanseetheroundofpurlbumps
justabovetheribontheWSofthework. Using Yarn B pick up and
knitonestitchfromeachpurlbump.

THREE-NEEDLEJOIN
TojointheLanternCageLayerandtheLanternLightLayerwhen
bothlayersarecompleteholdtheworkonthetwoneedleswiththe
LanternCageLayeratthefrontneedleandtheLanternLightLayer
attheback.UsingtwostrandsofYarnA,inserta thirdneedlefrom
fronttoback,firstthroughthefirststitchfromthefrontneedle
(Cage)thenthroughthefirststitchfromthebackneedle(Light)
anddrawtheyarnthroughbothsts.Knitthembothatthesame
timeasyouwoulddowitha regularknitstitchtomakeone new
stitchontherightneedle.Repeattotheendoftherow.
