AN MP has urged Twitter to “get a

grip” following disgusting racial

abuse targeting Man United players.

Marcus Rashford, 21, received foul

messages using the n-word after he

missed a penalty in Saturday’s 2-1 home

loss to Crystal Palace.

United’s Paul Pogba was

also abused after a spot-kick

miss on Monday.

Labour MP Matt Western

told Twitter and Facebook

they needed to “get a grip”.

He added: “This could not

happen in any other form of

media. It’s so telling white

players are never targeted.”

Yesterday, Pogba, 26,

made a passionate state-

ment of defiance. He posted

a pic of himself cradling his eight-

month-old son in front of photos of his

PAUL Pogba and Marcus Rashford were

not yet alive when pioneering black

players like Cyrille Regis and John Barnes

faced monkey chants at every game.

We all thought those days had gone –

so it is shocking to see the vile racist

abuse players have faced last week.

We should blame the racists first, not

Twitter or Facebook. But the social media

giants are responsible for what they can

do to stop racists spreading hate, just as

the football clubs had to stop racists

throwing bananas in the 1980s.

Two big things need to change. The

most vile Twitter racists are serial

offenders. Hooligans banned from

grounds can’t just walk back in next

Saturday. Too little is done to enforce
