I
don’t play competitive
online games. I find
them too stressful.
But there’s something
aboutOverwatchthat
clicked with me. My biggest issue,
however, was finding a hero I was
halfway good at. Having a ‘main’ in
a game like this, where balanced
team composition is vital, probably
isn’t the best idea, but I’ll never get
good with anyone otherwise. So I
spent an evening experimenting
with different characters, settling
on support-tank hybrid Orisa.
Her primary weapon is a hefty
cannon with a decent range called a
Fusion Driver. You can do some solid
damage with it, although firing it
slows your movement speed down,
making you a target for fast-moving
heroes such as Genji and Tracer. It
takes 2.5 seconds to reload, too,
which is a significant amount of time
in a frenziedOverwatchmatch, but
you can keep firing for 12.5 seconds,
so that just about makes up for it.
But it’s Orisa’s abilities that really
made me fall in love with her. I’ve
always been a support player, and her
Protective Barrier ability – which lets
you drop stationary shields with a

generous cooldown – is satisfying to
use. I love popping one and seeing
my teammates gather behind it.
Fortify, another of Orisa’s abilities,
is a genuine life-saver. When the
ability is activated, it reduces the
damage she takes by 50% and
invalidates movement-impairing
effects such as Reinhardt’s Charge or
Pharah’s Concussive Blast. It only
lasts for four seconds, so you be have
to smart about when you activate it,
but it’s saved my skin more times
than I can count.
