Just Cause 4 was a big hit, particularly the enormous,
scenery-shredding tornado featured in the footage
released by Avalanche. “It’s fully physicalised,” game
director Francesco Antolini said on stage. “It roams the
world wreaking havoc and it isn’t just background
scenery. This is Just Cause, man!” The game is running on
a new engine called Apex that Avalanche promises will
offer more varied biomes and extreme weather.
WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED
We were treated to some new footage ofTwo Point
Hospital, a spiritual successor to Bullfrog’s classicTheme
Hospital. “It’s a game about designing and building your
own hospital,” producer Mark Webley (project leader of
the original Theme Hospital, fact fans) said on stage.
“There’s a lot of customisation, interesting illnesses, and
interesting ways to cure them. Your first hospital is a
pretty simple affair, but as you move through the regions
they get tougher to run. You’ll be spinning a lot of plates.”
And those are just a few of the games we showed. We
also saw snippets of Star Citizen, Night Call,Killing
Floor 2, The Sinking City, Hunt: Showdown,Star Control,
The Forgotten City, and Neo Cab – you can learn more
about them on the PCG website. See you at E3 next year.

At the PC Gaming Show,
Sega announced that the
absurd Yakuza 0 is heading
to PC. It’s a game of
contrasts: of punching goons, of karaoke
and mahjong, of helping a nervous
dominatrix be better at her job. It’s also a
prequel,andthustheperfectplace for
newcomers to jump in. PS
LONG AWAITED
YAKUZ A 0
Rather than picking a
specific title, my E3 highlight
was the glut of games set in
or around water. We got
another peek at Ubi’s multiplayer pirate
game, Skull & Bones, found out EA has
picked up the poignant monster tale of
Sea of Solitude, and giggled with glee
over shark RPG, Maneater. PW
Devil May Cry 5 looks like my
kind of silly. It’s the type of
hack-and-slash game that
no one seems to make
anymore, and the reveal trailer
looked mid-’00s Capcom in an
endearing way. The question is, are
my reaction times too slow to play
this sort of game now? SR
