FRONTCOVER: The ‘Bournemouth Belle’ Pullman
service finished with the end of steam on the Southern
Region in July1967, but beforethat diesel substitutes
were not unknown–such as on June 5, 1966, when
No. D6503 (later 33003) heads the train at Itchen
Abbas, diverted from its normalroute via Basingstoke
to run via Alton and Alresford.
