The lorry that took No. 08663 to
the AVRhad pr eviouslybeenused to
transport No. D3022 (08015) from the
Severn ValleyRailway to the Bristol depot
fortyreturning.
Following on from the arrival of
No. 08663 from Bristol came No. 09015
from RSSatWishaw(Warwic kshire). This
loco has been stored outsideforquite
some time and, having suffered copper
thefts,does needalot of work to return
it to traffic. Work will notcommence
immediately, butafull rebuildand rewire
areplanned beforeite nters service at
the AVR.
■No. 08663’s tenureatt he AVRwas
abrief one, however, as by the end of
Julyitw as at theRSS yard at Wishaw
(Warwickshire). Like No. 08757 hired
in from theTelfor dSteamRailwaylast
month, No. 08663 has been hired in as
short-term coveruntilone of theRSS

RMS’Rolls-Royce Sentinel
0-6-0DH No. H014 has entered
preservation, moving from
Wolsingham to the Great Central
Railway (Nottingham) in mid-
July. Worksnumber 10262, itwas
built in 1967 and entered service
with the NCB at Ollerton Colliery,
Nottinghamshire.
WESTMIDLANDSTRAINS
SOHO EMU depot’sRailfreight-
liveried shunter No. 08805 has been
undergoingmaintenance in the EMU
shed, thework includingreplacement
of the fuel pump.
RAILWAYSupport Services has
undertakenashuffleofi ts ‘08s’ in July,
partlyinitiatedby damage caused to
No. 08934 at Dagenham.
This shunterwashit by aderailed
wagonand, whilst initiallyitwas going
to berepair ed, further investigation
found twisted frames and so itwas
transported direct from Dagenham to
Barrow Hill forcompone nt recovery.
The movescommenced on July12,
with No. 08939 moving from Neville Hill
to Felixstowe,joining No. 08757 there
forabrief period beforethe latterwas
shifted to Dagenham on the 15th.
No. 08934wasthen movedto
Barrow Hill, and the merry-go-round
wascompleted with No. 08846 heading
north from WishawtoNeville Hill to
replac ethe spacevacate dbyNo. 08939.
With noOTMR or TPWS fitted, No. 08846
will be confined toworking in the depot
area only. Thelocowas previouslyowned
by Bombardier and had been undergoing
overhaul at Wishaw. It tookatrip to
Bristol St Philip’sMarsh on June 21for
tyreturning,returning on the 24th.
EASTLEIGH TURN:RSS’ No. 08511 shuntsamotley
collection of engineeringwagons atEastleighEast Yard on
July4–comprisingofa12ton crane, an OCAopen, a'Mullet'
flat andasingle IOAbulk ballastwagon. The shunter is one
of three RSS locos on hiretoGBRf at Eastleigh since it took

preservation in 1981 at theRutland
Railway Museum(nowRocksbyRail).
Aregular performer untilsidelined
with electrical issues, the diesel loco
spent manyyears out of trafficuntila
newowner and the Industrial Diesel and
IndustrialRailwayPreserv ation Group
took it on.Restor ation commenced
at Scunthorpe Steelworksand was
completed at Andrew Briddon’s
worksh op at DarleyDale, the
locomotive returning toRutland at the
end ofMay.
Nowresplendent in USC maroon
livery,itw as asucce ssfulreturn to
trafficfor the engine, sharing duties
with the twoex-Oxfordshireironstone
SentinelsJeanandBetty.
