WALKAROUND
The DD grader is small and compact in
comparison to today’s graders and was
represented in Australia in two models, the “D”
being the petrol version and the “DD” Model
being the diesel version.
As one would expect there are a few signs that
tell us that some serious welding maintenance
has been done on the grader over 50 years of
heavy work. On other graders I have seen a lot
of welding being done on the front tubular steel
cross member.
However, this machine is a newer version and
has the solid square billet incorporated into its
build. When the original dimensional tubular
frame was not available in Australia, Tutts

the local graders picked up the outers left from
the manufacture of these wheels.
Cost effective, strong and locally available:
win, win, win.

  1. A look under the hood

  2. Going down in history –
    the day the filters were
    changed

  3. The control levers would
    sort out the best of
    operators

  4. The cabin is sparse but
vision is good. There’s no air
    conditioning, radio, heater
or fan in this old girl, but
    that’s how it was done
