“It’saninterestingsiteasthere are restrictions

around noise. MACA had experience with the
MD6250’s predecessor model and believed they
could get the same value and production out
of the new model,” says Adam Davis, product
manager for drills and large motor graders at
Hastings Deering.
“The MD6250 has proportional hydraulics,
which means the machine makes less noise
during operation and the fan circuit only operates
when it needs to. The machine only creates
horsepower when needed, which cuts down on
heat, noise and energy.”
Davis says the mine’s purchase of the MD
drill is in line with an industry trend towards using
high-tech, mid-size drills suited to drilling holes
smaller than 270mm.
The MD6250, is equipped with a hole diameter
range of between 152–250mm.
“In places like the Hunter Valley in New South
Wales, it’s the norm to go for mid-size machines
with this kind of technology, and it’s possible
that this could also happen in Queensland in the
future,” says Davis.
“Once the larger coal seams begin to shrink in
size and the work moves to higher-grade coal
seams, smaller machines are used as they are
better suited to such applications.”

patented Slew Safe, a safety feature exclusive to
TIDD cranes.
“Slew Safe, developed by TRT, is a significant
new pick and carry safety feature. It is designed
to minimise the risk of a crane rollover when the
crane is lifting on uneven surfaces: a leading cause
of articulating crane incidents in Australia,” says
Stephen Dance, TRT’s country manager.
Slew Safe provides the operator with feedback
through the steering wheel that they can feel when
the crane moves into an unsafe operating zone, and
visually through the dynamic load indicator (LMI).
TRT also showcased their latest innovations in
heavy transport technology during the launch.
TRT’s Electronic Steering System for low loaders,
platforms, beam and house trailers allows improved
steering control for drivers of over dimensional
loads, says the company, whilst the new trailer
modular system, Quick Connect, enables large
platforms, low loaders and house trailers to be
reconfigured for each load, in 20 minutes or less.
TRT’s Traction Air central tyre inflation system,
with GPS technology and axle options, was also part
of the display. This system manages tyre pressure
easily between sealed and site surfaces to improve
traction. TRT has also developed a tyre pressure
monitoring variant for the TIDD PC28.
