There must be thousands of parents
who wish they could order their babies
to “turn down the volume ” – or even
to snooze.
But while they might long for their
infants to share some of the abilities
of Amazon’s Alexa, it turns out they
hate the idea that their cherished new
arrival could be confused with a vir-
tual assistant.
The latest set of most popular baby
names published by the Offi ce for
National Statistics (ONS) has revealed
that the number of newborns called
Alexa has halved in just one year.
(Too few babies were named Siri for
the equivalent fi gures to be available.)
The ONS noted a series of other
changes that it attributed to cultural
phenomena in its summary of the
