At multi-award winning John Charles from
the Ellis portfolio, the look is classic, with knee-
length dress-and-jacket combinations leading
the way. However, the company is seeing a
growing demand for longer dresses that cross
over into eveningwear. Detail is a key ingredient
here, and fi t is all-important. The fact remains,
whatever the choice of style, “that today’s
fashion-savvy MOB shopping for that big day
outfi t wants to be able to try on her size, get the
right fi t and buy her whole outfi t along with

the hat and shoes right there and then,”
says creative director Regine Ellis, who
agrees that increasingly customers are
looking for an outfi t that can be worn
again, perhaps refreshed with different
accessories.
Regine’s advice to retailers wanting
to maximise on MOB potential, is simple:
“Create a dedicated area; whether it is a
whole fl oor or a curated space, it needs to
feel luxurious and exclusive. It should also
feature all the accessories that the store has
available, such as co-ordinated hats and shoes.”

Belgium’s Linea Raffaelli, in business for 54
years now, has perfected the MOB formula with
a superb range of dresses and ensembles with
that ‘get-me-noticed’ appeal. With two collections
a year, and a size offering from UK 6 to 24, the
label is consistent in its handwriting, retaining

Linea Raffaelli’s scrumptious new range
features short dresses with tiny cap sleeves or
see-through lace sleeves, which are especially
pretty. Best-selling colours centre on the
neutrals – nude, powder, sand and shell, as well
as vibrant tones of peach and pink. The fabric
focus is on lace, crepe and soft Mikado. Retail
prices range from £325 to £650 with a mid-way
£498 being the most popular.
