‘next Bury’

A NUMBER of Premier
League clubs, including
Manchester United, are con-
sidering increasing solidarity
payments to their lower
league counterparts in the
wake of Bury’s expulsion.
Currently, top-flight sides pay those
in the Championship £4.5million,
League One £675,000 and League
Two £460,000 a season.
Given Bury’s plight, which came in
the same year those payments were
cut for the first time, officials are
giving serious consideration to
suggesting an increase.
Senior figures at some clubs have
been saddened by the demise of the
two-time FA Cup winners, who on
Tuesday night became the first side
to be kicked out of the League since

  1. Many feel there is enough
money in the Premier League to
ensure the safety of those at the
    other end of the spectrum.

AXED WALKER FIGHTING FOR HIS ENGLAND FUTURE

KYLE WALKER is fighting to
save his England future after
he was axed by Gareth
Southgate yesterday.
Manager Southgate chose
Trent Alexander-Arnold,
Aaron Wan-Bissaka and
Kieran Trippier as his
recognised right backs for

the Euro 2020 qualifiers
against Bulgaria a week
tomorrow and Kosovo on
September 10.
He also included uncapped
trio Tyrone Mings, Mason

Mount and James Maddison,
while there was a surprise
recall for Alex Oxlade-
Chamberlain after his return
from a serious knee injury.
But it was the shock
omission of Manchester City
right back Walker, 29, from
Southgate’s 25-man squad

that caused the biggest stir.
When asked whether
Walker’s omission was just
for this squad, Southgate
replied: ‘It depends on how
well everybody does.’
