was now over an ankle
problem. He said: “He’s
feeling better, it’s very
positive. With Pepe, he came
here later than the others,
but he is getting better in
each match.
“Aubameyang is very
important for us, he scored
two goals in the first two
matches, and had two or
three good actions at
Liverpool.”
Mesut Ozil, on the other
hand, has yet to kick a ball
for the Gunners this season.
But Emery made it clear
that although talks were in

progress with European
clubs over deals for a
number of Arsenal players,
the former Germany
international would stay.
He said: “We have some
players who have the
possibility to leave before
the window closes. They
know their situation, but we
are not speaking about the
possibility he could leave.”
Defender Nacho Monreal
is close to joining Real
Sociedad, while midfielder
Mohamed Elneny is set for
season-long loan at
Besiktas.
Arsenal fans will be
looking for an improved
performance from David
Luiz, as the former
Chelsea man
gave away a
penalty at
Liverpool
last week, and
was slated for a
non-tackle on Mo
Salah that led to
another goal.
However, Emery
reckoned the Brazilian was
a great example to the other
Arsenal players.
He added: “I like and want
his mentality and his
ambition. I want to transmit
that ambition from him and
me to other players.”

KIDS MUST BE

HUMBLE SAYS

SOUTHGATE

BY JON WEST
UNAI EMERY says he is
prepared to unleash all
three of Arsenal’s superstar
forwards in the “best match
in the world” on Sunday.
The first north London
derby has arrived early this
season. And Emery reckons
all eyes will be on the
Emirates when Tottenham
turn up – especially if
Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick
Aubameyang, Alexandre
Lacazette and summer-
signing Nicolas Pepe kick off
as a trio for the first time.
Emery said: “They can
start together and they can
play also during the match
as all three, it depends how
we decide our game
plan.
“On Sunday,
the match
will be the
best in the
world for all
football
supporters.”
Pepe (right), who
cost £72million from
Lille earlier this month,
started his first Gunners
game last week at Liverpool.
Lacazette (with
Aubameyang, top) came off
the bench late in that 3-1
defeat, but Emery
confirmed the France star

SON COOL ON DERBY

TOTTENHAM star Heung-min Son
insists his side no longer care about
finishing above Arsenal after doing it
three years in a row.
And he believes Sunday’s north
London derby is just another big game.
Tottenham are under pressure after
losing 1-0 at home to Newcastle.
But Son said: “We finished ahead of
Arsenal in the last three years. But we
don’t actually care about that, we just
focus on ourselves. We just want to

GARETH SOUTHGATE has
sent a warning to England’s
next generation to stop
believing they are better than
they are.
Southgate made it clear he
felt England’s Under-21 squad
should have shown more
“humility” after their early exit
from the European Championship
in the summer.
Several England players gave
interviews after the tournament
saying they were the best team.
And goalkeeper Dean
Henderson claimed after defeat by
Romania: “Whoever goes on to win
the tournament, realistically we
know we can beat as well.”
Henderson did not get a senior
call-up this time – which could be
viewed as Southgate (right)
keeping Sheffield United’s on-loan
player in his place.
But James Maddison, Aaron
Wan-Bissaka and Mason Mount
were all promoted for the Euro

2020 qualifiers with Bulgaria and
Kosovo.
Southgate said: “For me, the
biggest reminder is within the
seniors that we must always have
humility.
“We play a country like Romania
in the U21s and I don’t know if we
thought we were better but they
had some really good players.
“I didn’t like the fact that our
boys came off that and thought
they were still the best team in the
tournament. That can’t
be the case.
“That’s a little bit
down to their age.
“They’ve got to
recognise it and learn
from it. But we play
Kosovo in the second
game here, they’re
a good team and
they’ve got some
really good
players and the
pride of a new
nation.“

finish as high as possible. Of course, the
Arsenal game is a big derby – but it’s just
another game. We are just looking
forward to winning these games – and
we are ready to win a trophy now.”
Tottenham have not won a Premier
League match at the Emirates since
nearly a decade ago in 2010.
And Son has further dreams of his
own – wanting to win the Ballon d’Or
trophy for the best player in the world.
“That’s why I started playing football!
You should always dream big,” he said.

is now first choice. Aaron
Wan-Bissaka is also
emerging, while Kieran
Trippier has been recalled.
Manchester City defender
Walker was a key part of
England’s World Cup
campaign, but voiced his
displeasure at playing as a
centre-back – and now there
is no place for him at all
against Bulgaria and Kosovo.
England boss Southgate
said: “That challenge is there
for all of them. And whether
they are younger or older,
don’t assume anything,
because everyone has to
keep performing if we’re to
challenge the best teams.
That’s how we develop.
“They’ve got to play well
and it’s going to be harder to
get in, because you can see
the players we’ve had to
leave out.
“Trent (above) has got to
be one of those we look to
integrate and give more
opportunity. If we don’t make
a pathway, when are you
ever going to put them in?
“With Aaron, we’ve got a
completely different kind of
player, so we’ve got Trips
(Trippier) as a bit of cover.
There’s no point bringing
Kyle in, if the intention is not
to start him in the games.
“He’s a senior player and
he’ll value the rest and
recovery. But, we
could be in a
different space
in four weeks’
time because
he’s started
the
season
very
well.”
